Affiliates of Habitat, from Habitat's Web Site: Affiliates of Habitat for Humanity are formed when concerned persons from varied backgrounds band together to solve the issue of impoverished housing in their community. These volunteers do research on the neighborhood's affordable housing needs and resources, as well as assess the self-help model's potential viability in their town. The organization then submits an application to HFHI to become an official affiliate. Each affiliate is responsible for overseeing all areas of Habitat home construction in its local region, including money raising, site selection, partner family selection and support, house construction, and mortgage servicing.
Our newly acquired 1970s bungalow has never been refurbished or redecorated.
After a year of wallpaper removal, painting, and various repairs, we decided to tackle the kitchen. We prepared for many months and then began demolition on April 5th. July 2nd saw the completion of final touches. We opened up a pantry/laundry area next to the kitchen, as well as a wall to the dining room, to allow for additional natural light. The island was built using the existing cabinetry and painted to match the tile backsplash. The butcher block top was salvaged from our basement workshop. A significant chunk of this was completed on a do-it-yourself basis, with professionals handling wiring, drywall, and the installation of beams to replace a bearing wall.
Columns and Arches Remodeled in an Open Living Room and Kitchen
Before we moved into our Park House in Texas, the kitchen had a few minor modifications to the wood cabinets and a new subway tile backsplash. However, the view linking the dining area, kitchen, and living room has been much improved thanks to our do-it-yourself internal columns and arches!
