I've been following this since my 9-year-old nephew was a baby. Over the years, and now that my own children are watching it, my perspective has shifted. My kid retains the lessons taught by Barney and Friends, for which I am grateful. It's almost as though Barney validates the lessons I tell my kid, and they seem to stick more effectively (say manners). I've discovered that even at my age, I have favorite characters and can discern a clear distinction between the old episodes, when it was The Backyard crew, and the current series. Given that this is intended for children and it does indeed go down there with children, it seems that parents and other adults who find it obnoxious should just leave the room. Personally, I didn't begin to appreciate the performance until I sat down with my nephew and watched it with him, singing and dancing along. He was having such a good time seeing me do what they were doing! Salute to Barney!
