Mexico, in particular, has ratified both the UNESCO's Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in 2001 and the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. In 2001, as part of the revision of the Mexican Constitution, the cultural diversity of the Mexican nation was recognized (see Article 2), with a particular emphasis on indigenous peoples.
In effect, what one generation transmits to the next is not only information. Additionally, they are concepts, knowledge, world representations, values, customs, and traditions. Additionally, there are objects, testimonies, and documents from other eras. In this sense, a society's patrimony is fundamentally cultural. They are immutable assets of their own, possessors of an eternal validity and a unique meaning for that society in terms of its beliefs, traditions, and identity.
