The Hanuman Project recently staged a ceremonial dedication of the 25-foot statue at the Hindu Temple of Hockessin, Delaware. The monument inspires awe not just because of its height, but also because of its weight of approximately 45,000 kg. It was cut from a single piece of granite stone and delicately molded over a year in India. Over 12 full-time artists spent a year carving the monolithic monument in Warangal, Telangana, a historical town noted for old black granite temples. Since the ground-breaking ceremony for the Hockessin temple in 1996, Indians in Delaware have desired a life-size statue of Lord Hanuman. While Goddess Mahalakshmi is the temple's presiding goddess, Lord Hanuman shall be treated with equal devotion. âTowering sculptures of Lord Hanuman are revered and venerated across India, and we are pleased to continue the tradition in Delaware,â said the Hindu Temple Association's president.
