Tanjirou Kamado has carried the family's financial burden since his father's death. Despite their poverty on a lonely mountain, the Kamado family manages to live a reasonably tranquil and happy existence. Tanjirou chooses to visit the next hamlet in order to earn some extra money selling charcoal. On his return, Tanjirou is forced to seek sanctuary in the home of a strange man, who warns him of the presence of flesh-eating monsters that prowl in the woods at night. When he returns home the next day, he is confronted with a horrible sightâhis whole family has been killed. Worse worse, his sister Nezuko has been transformed into a violent monster. Tanjirou, consumed by fury and hate, pledges to punish his family and to stand by his lone surviving brother.
