Shirley Chisholm State Park Pictures

No, figuratively. When I visited, there was a stench that pervaded the whole park. I'm not sure whether the odor is coming from the lake, the local sewage plant, or the rubbish on which we were riding our bikes. The ten-year-old with whom I was riding his bike loved cycling around the area, but he expressed displeasure that it smelled like someone farted. I'm not sure how safe it is to build a park on top of a hazardous waste site. While they claimed to have covered and treated the area, nobody knows how secure that is. At this park, there is virtually nothing to do but wander around, exercise, have lunch at a picnic table, and ride your bike. That is OK, but if you are not from the area, I would not recommend making a special journey out here. That is, there are no playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, or baseball diamonds; instead, there is just grass, rocks, water, and trees. If you want tranquillity, you will find it here. If you're hoping for a park with a lot to do, you're going to be disappointed.

On July 2, 2019, the governor and other governmental leaders representing the park site held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the Shirley Chisholm State Park to the public. The Pennsylvania Avenue Landfill is the park's initial section; the Fountain Avenue Landfill opened a few months later. The park is scheduled to open in 2021.

The world declares: "You have requirements; meet them. You have the same right as the wealthy and powerful. Do not be afraid to broaden your requirements and demand more." This is the contemporary worldly doctrine. And they feel that this is what it is to be free. For the wealthy, this results in seclusion and suicide; for the impoverished, it results in jealousy and murder. The Brothers Karamazov, Fyodor Dostoyevsky
