In 1988, the newspaper updated the logo once again, this time experimenting with typefaces to produce something distinctive and fascinating. Unusually for a serious editorial, the publication began employing a logotype composed of two entirely distinct fonts. The initial section of the wordmark was created using an unique slightly italicized typeface with clean lines and a delicate curve for the letter âHâ. The Guardian portion of the logo was put in the title case of a contemporary sans-serif typeface called ExtraBold. The mix of light and graceful âTheâ and big and substantial âGuard-ianâ created a very memorable and distinctive graphic identity for the publication. 2005–2018
