Another ingenious detail that helps to toughen the course while also adding to its attractiveness is the addition of heather to the bunkers on the greens' side. It looks fantastic, and you'd best make a clean exit through the heather... A round at Woking is a tremendous amount of fun. The setting is breathtaking, and the members are consistently kind. When it comes to scoring, the course is a bit of a mystery - even when your game is on point, you'll drop a few shots here and there and before you know it, you'll have used up your handicap. On the other side, having a nightmarish round when your game is off is equally challenging. The course is not unduly punishing, but it gradually wears you down with its difficult green complexes that reward only your finest shortgame and putting performances.
I was asked to play golf with a member and was impressed by the course's condition. The location is steeped in history, and the whole day was delightful. A Society was performing, and we were invited to join them for the three-course lunch. When we arrived, the Assistant Secretary was entertaining my friend's mother, and the whole staff looked after us well over lunch. The appetizers, Roast Beef and trimmings, and desserts were all outstanding. A very magnificent experience on and off the course. We appreciate your cooperation, Woking Golf Club.
