The tournament, which began on February 20th in a specially constructed bio-bubble in Karachi, was forced to suspend after 14 games due to the discovery of instances of Covid-19 after a breach of the bio-bubble. The tournament's 15th game, between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, was postponed because Fawad Ahmed of Australia tested positive for COVID-19. Subsequently, three further instances were reported among clubs, necessitating the league's immediate suspension. The PCB then set the itinerary for the remainder of the tournament, which will begin on June 1st in a tougher bio-bubble in Karachi. However, the deteriorating Covid-19 scenario in Karachi prompted the franchisees to write to the PCB requesting that the tournament be relocated, ideally to the UAE - which has already held the competition successfully.
The sixth season of the Pakistan Super Competition (PSL) has been postponed indefinitely due to a spate of corona infections that rendered the league impossible to conduct. Prior to the tournament's suspension, just 14 matches were played in the league. And now, after a meeting organized by Wasim Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Chief Executive Officer, the PCB has identified up to three windows in which the remaining matches may be played. If reports are to be believed, the first window will open in May, the second in September, and the last one in November.
The PCB and all six PSL clubs met virtually on Friday and agreed on Dubai as the alternative site, although Sethi said the PCB made a grave error by suspending the league in Karachi on March 4. "The remaining 20 matches might have been conducted without spectators in a strong bio-secure bubble," he said.
