- What Alien can teach us about the workplace There are, of course, several other reasons, ranging from the great language to the faultless acting, from the finger-clicking music to the mouth-watering Big Apple cinematography. However, the film's actual novelty is in the way director Rob Reiner and screenwriter Nora Ephron obliterate the characters' personal information, just as they obliterate all impediments to pleasure. Everything but Harry and Sally's views about love, sex, friendship, and each other is omitted from the film. As a consequence, a romantic comedy is reduced to its essence: it has just romance and humor.
I am not an expert on the genre, but I'd have to say that "When Harry met Sally" is, apart from the multitude of absolutely brilliant Woody Allen films, the wittiest and most amusing romantic comedy available on video. I just wish I'd seen the film sooner since it seems to be the ideal film for a circle of excellent friends at Pizzaria Uno. Although the film was released in 1989, I believe this is one that even our children will enjoy. As with many successful genre flicks, this one feeds on its humorous dialogue and deftness in not over-sensitizing it. In other words, there is an ideal balance between episodes of pure heartbreak and sequences of terrible comedic relief. Naturally, the actors involved contribute significantly to the film's success and general attractiveness. Ryan and Crystal are ideal for their respective roles, both bringing their own brand of charm and vitality to the screen. Crystal is a perfect match for the character we find all too annoying yet can't help but love, and Ryan is as charming as ever.
After Harry admits that his wife has been cheating on him, Jess almost breaches the fourth wall. "I'm a writer; I'm familiar with dialogue, and it was really nasty!" New Year's Kiss: Near the film's conclusion, Harry makes one more attempt to reconcile with Sally, arguing with her while the rest of the party counts down to the New Year. They end up falling in love again and kissing while everyone else sings "Auld Lang Syne."
When Harry Met Sally...Harry and Sally meet when she provides him with transportation to New York after their graduation from the University of Chicago. The story flashes back and forth over their lives as they both hunt for love but fall short, often running into one other. Finally, they develop a deep connection, and they both enjoy having a companion of the opposing sex.
