And on March 24, 1970, at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, with Buddy Baker at the wheel of Chrysler Engineering's number 88 vehicle, the Charger Daytona became the first NASCAR racecar to perform a lap faster than 200 mph. They took an ugly and stupid looking vehicle and transformed it into the car it should have been when it left Detroit for Talladega. This is the ultimate Mopar, in my opinion. The appearance is appealing, and the vehicle would be ideal with a Hemi or 440 Magnum added. Apart from the unusual component placement, this is a really capable automobile. It's quite unfortunate that just three of them survived the shooting. Yes, four Chargers perished during the shooting of this video, but they ultimately rescued them from the trash heap and created a fantastic film in the process. As long as some survive and are sold to proud owners who will take care of them for future generations of petrol fans to enjoy, I'm content. Inside, Toretto's Daytona is a study in simplicity. Except for the door handles, the vehicle is completed in custom-made aluminum panels, a roll cage, AutoMeter gauges, basic switches, and a set of Premier Racing Products low-back seats.
